INPATIENT ELEMENTS/FIELDS

These elements are standard for most of the tables/statistics:

1. Number of claims/stays/hospitalizations
2. Total facility charges
3. Medicare reimbursement amount
4. Number of days (Total LOS)
5. Number of Medicare days (Total Medicare LOS)
6. Patient deductible amount
7. Pass through amount
8. Patient Coinsurance amount
9. Primary payer amount
10. Coinsurance days
11. Outlier payment amount
12. IME amount
13. All charge fields including:
    • Total Charges
    • Covered Charges
    • Hospital Departmental Charges
    • Private Room
    • Semi-private room
    • Ward
    • Intensive Care
    • Coronary Care, etc.
14. Averages including:
    • Length of Stay
    • Utilization days
    • Discharges
    • Payment per discharge, etc.

Note:

• All information will be supplied with a data dictionary identifying the fields and the content. Information as to the business and transformation rules can be supplied on request.
• All files and statistics either have or will have to be approved for release by CMS(previously HCFA). Cells of less than 11 have been or will be eliminated before requesting CMS approval for release to the interested parties where and whenever applicable.
